Project Goals:
The goal for this project was to create an Atlantean character design for Space Ape Games' upcoming game Boom Beach: Frontlines. We had one week to research, sketch, and create a character sheet showing multiple angles and poses for the character. I also chose to create some alternative outfits for the character.
Tools:
I started with some research on the cultures that Atlantis was based off of, using resources like Plato's dialogues Timaeus and Critias. I found that a lot of inspiration for Atlantis was pulled from the Minoan era in the Cyclades islands such as Crete. I also looked at cultures such as the Sea People of the Bronze Age.
I compiled images of armor and other culteral garments from this culture around 9,600 BC (when Atlantis is supposed to have sank) as inspiration for the outfit and character design.
I sketched a character design of a man from Atlantis in the style of the armorfrom the Minoan / Sea People inspiration. I incorporated a cartoon style that fits with the other Boom Beach character designs. I gave the character a crab claw that he carries fish on.
